Dollars for Comments Charity Campaign

Help feed the hungry

I love receiving comments from people around the world at my humble Giggle On! blog.

I also LOVE donating to charity, especially anything involving feeding the hungry. I guess it’s that “mangia, mangia” Italian girl mentality!

Here’s the deal

For every comment left on my blog (not just this post but the entire site) from December 21st to December 28th, I will donate $1.00 to the Food Bank of Delaware.

Since my bank account isn’t overflowing like Oprah’s (not close), I will place a cap on what I can donate, unless of course Charity Santa Claus (or other corporate donors) work some serious magic.

I was inspired to participate in a comments for charity campaign after visiting Melissa Morris Ivone’s blog, Operation Nice, a web site where people share stories of being kind to each other! Go check it out!

We hear so much in this world about bad news but there are MILLIONS of fabulous people in the world doing nice things for others every day.

Let’s feed people AND get our Giggle On!!

Rules & Eligibility: Only one comment per person per post will be tallied for this contest.

Please tell everyone you know about it and thanks for participating!

Giggle On! with the goodness.

Love your blog..giggleon! I am going to add a link on my blog and post about your great idea. I am so happy that you are sharing the circle work we shared in Sedona. There is a blog post that uses the circle and also includes a bowl burning ceremony which is a great ceremony for ending the year and clearing 2008 so that we can begin 2009 with new giggle energy.

Hope to have you visit my blog and share the bowl burning ceremony with your readers.

    Congratulations on GiggleOn! Love it!

As you know, this post was inspired by the folks over at Operation Nice. Operation Nice likes to hear stories where people are kind and thoughtful to one another.

I want to share a really nice thing that happened to me tonight at the supermarket. It helped add another $10 to my Food Bank of Delaware kitty.

Once my cart was filled with goodies, I strolled over to the checkout area, admired photos of Jennifer Aniston and Angelina Jolie in the racks and waited for the cashier to greet me.

I used to be a cashier for a home improvement store, coffee shop, deli and a few other places I blocked out. I KNOW exactly what it’s like to be on the other side of the counter. If you’ve ever been in the retail or food service industry, you understand what I mean.

Saying hello, making eye contact and using the words “thank you” to someone go a long way!

It was a relatively inexpensive trip to the market for some basics like toilet paper, 6 fancy Christmas cards, blueberries, hummus and a yo-yo (not for me, for my nephew). I also got cheese, detergent, coffee…yeah yeah…coffee…wrapping paper…..man, I got a lot of stuff!

The cashier and I chatted and smiled at each other. She rang everything up and told me my total. $107.89.

GULP. OK…but I have my shoppers card, let’s see what kinda discount I get.

SHA-ZAM! My card shaves $10 bucks off the total. Now I owe less than $100 for my loot.

I was so excited to see my discount that I smiled and yelped “oh yeah”! I acted like I just won the lottery.

The cashier looked at me, grabbed a coupon of something from somewhere, hit a few buttons and said, your total is now $88.13!

    “Really?” I asked.

She nodded her head yes and smiled.

    “How did you do that?”

She said, “I have some fancy money saving tricks of my own”.

I proclaimed “THANK YOU Santa” directly to her.

    Her kindness made my night!

I didn’t hesitate to tell her what I was going to do with the $10 she helped me save.

$10 won’t save the world from hunger but it will feed one person a hot meal or two through the Food Bank of Delaware!

Niceness. It ain’t rocket science people. It’s easy.

I was nice to her. She was nice to me. Now I take that niceness and pay it forward!

    HOW COOL IS THAT?

    Hi, Christa.
    I LOVE this!
We’ve made a regular practice of donating things like clothes and toys, and food for the food bank. I never think about how it will come back to me, just those in need. Been there, done that, got the T-shirt. It ain’t pretty.
This year, it’s coming back to us.
The guy who bought our house at auction the day it foreclosed wanted us out on Thanksgiving, with 6 days notice, but the attorney gave us more time. Then Fannie Mae gave us a little more. I had a hearing last week. The judge ordered a trial to contest the sale of my house because Countrywide refused my payment and refused to refinance.
I had sold everything I could to keep the utilities on over the summer, after my husband left, including Christmas stuff. We didn’t have a tree, but Christmas for us was just being in our house. Last Friday, someone delivered a Christmas tree, with lights! The next day, a neighbor brought us everything for a Christmas dinner. Later, we found a bag of treats on the porch for the kids. Then, someone gave me some money to buy gifts for my kids. They will have presents under the tree after all!
Kindness is alive and well in this world, and I’m thrilled to see you spreading it, Christa.
    MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!
    Jacqueline

Christa: In England in the pre-electric days there were people who went out at dusk and with a long pole and a flame lit the oil lamps along the streets. They were called lamplighters. Where there was darkness, there was now light.

You are a lamplighter Christa. Keep up the good work. Great foodback idea.

Happy New Year to all. Many blessings.
