Giggle On!

The Blame Game. Do you play?

There is a man, a very spiritual man, respected by millions, who has entered the political commentary world with great gusto lately. His name is Deepak Chopra.

On August 29, 2008, I read a disturbing article by Deepak titled “Obama and the Tragedy of Apathy”.

I am not disturbed because Deepak is expressing his political views. As an American, he has a right to express his beliefs and opinions. However, his one-sided and judgmental commentary in “Obama and the Tragedy of Apathy” and his reference to the tragic tactics of the Republican machine fuels an environment of fear, anger and hate.

When I think of Deepak my mind immediately envisions healing, compassion, equanimity of spirit, eternal and interconnected consciousness, the field of infinite possibilities and love and light. For a man who has spent a lifetime espousing the human empowerment movement, the comments he makes in the above blog both shock and disappoint me.

Is it productive to point fingers at one party or one person for all that ills this country?

Is government, a particular political party or the President solely responsible for our happiness and lots in life?

Are we choosing to live in a world of blame?

When either the Democrats or the Republicans, blacks or whites, women or men engage in the blaming game, we all lose.

In my humble opinion, so many of us relinquish our personal power by putting all our hope in elected leaders and in “others” when we have so much power in our own right. We are not victims. We are creators!

I believe we create a better life by taking personal responsibility for ourselves.

I believe we create happiness in our lives by making positive choices during every minute of every day.

I can choose to get a good night’s sleep, eat well, exercise, pick up litter on the street, feed the hungry, pray for my friends and my foes, educate myself, nourish my spirit, check in on my elderly neighbors, drive the speed limit, pay my bills on time – OR - I can choose not to.

Both choices have consequences.

I can choose to be a victim or I can choose to empower myself.  Specifically, I could have chosen to kill myself when things got bad in my life but instead, I choose not to give up, but to Giggle On!

I can choose to blame, bully, bad-mouth and berate – OR – I can choose to take responsibility, encourage, support and motivate. I choose the latter.

Which one will you choose?

We all have a choice to make. The choices we make direct our path and blaming others for our own decisions causes our path to take to many directions. Awesome observation.

I’m not surprised at Deepak. Guru Shmooroo. He is human. A lot of folks have their panties in a bunch about the upcoming elections. It sounds like he is scared. I am too. Is it possible to publicly voice my opinions without disappointing anyone or pissing them off? My way of dealing with it is keeping my mouth shut. Is that any better? I want to be responsible and also encourage, support ,and motivate others. Is there a way to do that regarding politics? Is the political antithical(um, spell check please) to a nurturing environment?

[...] don’t think Republicans are evil nor do I think Democrats are evil. No one ever wins the blame game. I vote for stopping the blaming and name calling [...]

If we can all just focus our energies on solving or reducing our common problems, after much teamwork and toil, one day we’ll look up from the grindstone and say, “Hey, I forget what political party I am.” and “I can’t remember yours, either.”
